Shrinky Dink Necklace

There have been many crafty challenges posted lately that had to do with St. Patrick’s Day.  I’m excited to post this project (completed just a couple minutes ago!) to apply to a few of them!

This project will be submitted to:
Cricut Circle Monthly Challenge:
Create a pin, necklace, bracelet or something else that you can wear on St. Patrick’s Day that includes the color green.

Heart2Heart Challenge:
This week’s Heart 2 Heart Challenge is for you to make and share a project for someone that shows them how lucky you are to have them in your life.  Plus, here is a step up challenge: use the color green!

My Pink Stamper:
Theme for Project: St. Patrick’s Day! Think Green! Show us a card, layout, mini book, party idea, home decor–anything!

Bitten By the Bug 2:
… find a SHAMROCK and do a project featuring one of my favorite colors ….. GREEN !

Phew, that’s a lot of challenges!! 🙂
For my project, I chose to work with a new medium (for me, anyway) – Shrinky Dinks!  I used my Cricut and the Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out shamrocks and a star at approximately  3″ each.   I used the Gypsy to hide the contour on a tag that has a shamrock in it 😉
Once the pieces were cut (I needed to use the deep cut blade and put it back in a few times for multiple cuts – as I mentioned this was my first time using Shrinky Dinks so I’m still learning),  I punched a hole in each one so that I could fit a jump ring in after they shrank.  I coloured the pieces using markers and then (here’s my favourite part!) I used my new Diverse Backgrounds stamp set to stamp a pattern on the shape.  I used Staz On ink to be sure it would stay – and it did!  I wish I had taken a picture before melting them down because they look so different after the fact!!   To melt mine, I used a craft heat gun and it worked well for me!  Just use it on a heat resistant surface and use tweezers to hold down the shape (at least until it starts curling).  I have to admit I panic a little when it looks like the shape will never come uncurled, but keep heating – it will! 🙂

Supplies used (except for jewelry findings):

Some of these supplies are available through me on my Close to My Heart website (including Staz On ink, Diverse Backgrounds stamp set, and the Art Philosophy Cricut Bundle).  Check out the new format of the website today!

Thanks for stopping by!
