I have made several custom cards in the last couple years, and they are always some of my favourite projects. I love knowing that someone will relate to the card they receive, and know that the person who gave it to them really put their heart and great thought into it!
I recently had a request for a Mother of the Bride card and enjoyed incorporating her likes into the design. I am so lucky to have customers who let me “run” with an idea or design. Rita is one of them 🙂 Rita, who ordered this card for the mother of the bride, provides me with quick notes of what she wants to see included in a design and then I just go!
For this card, I was told that the mother of the bride likes sunflowers, cats, and picture frames. Sometimes I wonder how everything will flow together, but with a little bit of time and experimenting, we’re all left with something to enjoy. This kind of project encourages me to try new techniques and look for items I wouldn’t normally think to use; this is probably the same reason I enjoy recipe challenges so much!
On the card, I used cats from Kate’s ABC’s, some Recollections paper flowers, and a hand cut frame and grass. The frame was embossed with the Cuttlebug and everything was inked in different tones. A pewter brad made a great nail/pin for the picture to “hang” from. The tag (to go on a gift) was made using various punches I had on hand – you could use many different cartridges for similar shapes!
I hope this encourages you to try making something special for someone soon! Think of the things they love, and combine them all into one!
