JANUARY MONTHLY CHALLENGE: The Year In Review Challenge!

I could have gone a lot of ways with this challenge… This past year has been interesting for me as I have made a lot of changes in my own life and taken on some new adventures.  I think I will scrapbook my own “year in review” eventually for myself, but for this challenge I decided to focus on something (someone) who spent the whole of last year seeing everything for the first time!  My nephew, Colby, was born at the very end of 2010, and watching him grow and learn each month through 2011 was so exciting!
For Colby’s first birthday, I made him a 12″x12″ wall calendar full of memories from his first year.  This challenge pushed me to create a layout showcasing all 12 scrapbook pages in one spot – great for me because I didn’t order myself a copy of the calendar 😉

There’s a first for me on this layout too – my first time stitching!! I usually only add faux stitching, but I was inspired on the weekend at a crop I attended and decided to try it for myself.  The white stitches are fake, while the brown ones are real – I like the way the different dimensions complement each other.   I also used bakers twine for the first time on a layout – this bakers twine is by Close to My Heart and will be available when the new Idea Book launches February 1, 2012!!  You can shop for that and other great items through the “shop with me” link on the sidebar.

The two cartridges I used for this were Go Canada (font) and Art Philosphy (journaling block – vellum and brown cardstock).

Here's a close up of the stitching!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Great job on stepping out of your box and trying something new, I always smile when someone says that stitching is new for them as I have been stitching for years on my cards and layouts…Personally a trip to the Cross stitch store is a part of my normal routine when buying scrapbooking supplies! 😉 Love the layout, you did a fabulous job!
